Cloud Compuiting
1. What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is Internet-based computing(refer fig2), whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices on-demand, like a public utility.
It provides the following different services ie
1. Infrastructure as service
2. Software as service
3. Platform as service
2. Where Is the Cloud?
An agency can host a cloud itself, subscribe to a cloud service hosted by another agency, or subscribe to a service from a third-party service provider(refer point no 11). Some agencies subscribe to an external cloud for some services and build a private cloud for others, depending on the criticality and security classification of the service.
3. Why Is Cloud Computing a Good Idea in Government?
"Cloud computing can reduce the government to cost-effectively introduce cloud computing because of more decrease because agencies don't need to prepare for usage spikes. costs of existing services and enable enhanced services," Citizens benefit from efficiently. Government IT costs often purchase more capacity than they need to
Management costs can decrease, as well. "Agency IT personnel spend less time and resources making the IT infrastructure efficient, which enables them to focus on
the core mission,"
4. How to host a cloud?
Your agency needs a platform with the following characteristics:
• Performance: The platform needs to be able to support high transaction volume and multiple applications.
• Low management overhead: Acquiring new servers should not add management burden. Automated provisioning offloads the agency IT department. And to keep costs down, IT staff should be able to manage computing, storage access, network infrastructure, and virtualization from one interface.
• Energy efficiency: Look for a platform that minimizes the number of components to power and cool.

5. How Does It Work?
The basic requirement for cloud computing is an computer with internet connection .Things like operating system , IDE , games etc wont be in there your computer rather than it will be loading from the cloud server . Just user need to login to the Cloud service provider from any browser .Now your cloud operating system will be loading in your browser as shown in the below screenshot.
6. Advantages of Cloud Computing
The advantages of cloud computing is that both small and medium sized businesses can instantly obtain the benefits of the enormous infrastructure without having to implement and administer it directly.
This also permits accessibility to multiple data centers anywhere on the globe. It also means that as the need for resources increases, companies can add additional service as and when needed from the cloud computing vendor without having to pay for additional hardware.
7. How Could the Future of Cloud Computing Work for You?
In theory the process is very simple. Cloud computing could allow you to have only a small and inexpensive computer, processor and monitor in front of you. You would have no need for a hard drive or a CD/DVD drive. Instead you would need only an Internet connection, which would hook you up to a central supercomputer that would host all your programs and files. This presents and advantage to both storage and security issues.
